About Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa

Pilanesberg, which covers over 55 000 hectares (135908 acres), is the fourth-largest game park in South Africa. It is one of the top Big 5 game reserves nearby Johannesburg and one of the safari parks in the nation with the most accessible access.

Pilanesberg National Park is located in the North West Province's Bojanala Region amid a transitional vegetation zone. It is also the meeting point of the arid Kalahari Desert and the moist Lowveld biomes. As a result, a wide variety of animal, plant, and bird species call this location home. Pilanesberg National Park is home to nearly all of Southern Africa's wildlife, including endangered and uncommon species like African wild dogs and roan, sable, and tsessebe antelopes. All five Big 5 creatures (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and the elusive leopard) can be found in Pilanesberg. The national park is also home to cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, jackals, wild cats, and numerous antelopes. Furthermore, approximately 360 bird species have been reported in the Pilanesberg National Park.

The North West Parks Board manages the Pilanesberg National Park, a provincial park. A fascinating detail about the national park is that it was built in a crater by a volcano eruption millions of years ago. The extinct volcano is an intriguing geological site with breathtaking views.
