This Tented Botswana Safari begins in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta region of Botswana. Our driver collects you in Maun and drives you to Mankwe Tented Retreat, near Moremi Game Reserve. Arriving at the lodge, you have some time to settle into your spacious tented suite and enjoy some light refreshments out on the deck.
In the afternoon you embark on your first game drive in the private concession area of Mankwe. This 365,000-hectare private concession area shares unfenced borders with Moremi Game Reserve which enables wildlife to roam freely between these diverse wilderness areas. The private concession area that you explore is closed to the public, providing a crowd-free and exclusive safari experience. Off-road and night game drives are also permitted, enabling your guide to track down elusive animals more successfully.
Your sunset game drive is conducted by a professional guide from Mankwe Tented Retreat in an open-sided safari vehicle. Explore the unspoiled private reserve as the heat of the day subsides. The sunset game drive lasts into the night when a spotlight is used to scan the bush for nocturnal animals. Keep an eye out for resident lions, elephants, and even elusive leopards in the private game reserve.
Back at the tented safari camp, dinner is served in the indoor dining area or out on the deck beside the pool. After dinner, sit back and relax around the campfire in the boma area or unwind at the poolside bar.
Day two starts with an early wake-up call followed by fresh coffee and rusks at the tented safari lodge. Today our Tented Botswana Safari includes two game drives in the private concession area of the tented lodge. Alternatively, you can embark on a full-day safari in Moremi Game Reserve (at extra cost).
For the included game drives, your guide takes you out on an early morning game drive in the private concession area after your coffee. Early mornings are one of the best times for seeing wildlife and birds in the wild and the warm morning light is optimal for photography.
After your morning wildlife adventure, you'll return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast in the dining tent. Then you have free time to take it easy at the semi-luxury tented camp. Take a swim in one of the sparkling pools, retreat to your private suite, laze on a sun lounger, or curl up with a book in one of the chill-out areas. The safari lodge is set in a natural woodland of Mopani trees and other native flora. Keep an eye out for the array of animals and birds that visit the tented lodge. This Botswana safari camp is unfenced so wildlife can roam freely between the lodge grounds and the surrounding private concession area.
At about 14h30 lunch is served in the spacious dining area or out on the shaded deck beside the pool. Sit back and enjoy the natural setting of the tented safari lodge, before embarking on a sunset game drive. Your expert guide drives you out into the untamed bush in search of the diverse animal and birdlife of Botswana. This pristine wetland area serves as a massive oasis in the otherwise dry region of northern Botswana, hosting large populations of mammals and birds. As darkness falls a spotlight is used to help locate nocturnal animals and birds.
Your night game drive ends back at the tented safari lodge where an inviting campfire awaits. After a tasty dinner in one of the charming dining areas, settle down for a laid-back evening under the stars.
Please note: The full-day Moremi Safari includes refreshments and a packed lunch from the tented lodge. A mokoro ride or boat cruise can be added to the full-day Moremi Safari, upon request (dependent on water levels).
Wake up to the sights and sounds of the unspoiled African bush on day three of this Tented Botswana Safari. After coffee and breakfast at the semi-luxury tented camp, it is time to leave the Moremi region for our next Botswana safari destination.
Your driver takes you back to Maun where you catch a short flight to Savuti airstrip. Here your Camp Savuti guide collects you and transfers you to Camp Savuti. This thirty-minute transfer takes you to your next tented safari camp in Botswana, on the banks of the Savuti Channel. Upon arrival, your host welcomes you and gives you a brief overview of the tented camp.
Then a delicious lunch is served followed by some free time to settle into your spacious safari tent. After freshening up guests set off on a late afternoon game drive in Savuti. This remote region of Chobe Park is famous for its world-class predator viewing and high concentrations of game. Out in the wildlife-rich bush, we stop for sundowners, admiring another beautiful African sunset in nature.
After sunset, we continue our search for wildlife and birds as we return to the safari camp for dinner and a laid-back evening around the campfire in the open-air boma.
Up early this morning again, we have a quick coffee and continental breakfast before venturing into Savuti. This morning our Tented Botswana Safari kicks off with a walking safari in the Savuti region of Chobe National Park.
The guided walking safari is a thrilling way to experience the African bush up close. Exploring Savuti Marsh we enjoy superb game viewing, sighting a variety of large mammals. Savuti is known for its numerous lions, African wild dogs, and hyenas, as well as hosting cheetahs and leopards. Keep an eye out for wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, and various antelope species. In the rainy season (January and February) we may see the zebra migration of Savute too. The area is also home to healthy populations of elephants, including large bulls.
While out on our game drive we stop for coffee and rusks at a designated rest spot in the bush. Savuti is also an excellent place for birdwatching, attracting an array of noteworthy species. Look out for kori bustards, ground hornbills, bateleur eagles, and pin-tailed whydahs to name a few.
Our game drive ends back at the safari camp where a tasty lunch is served. Lunch is followed by leisure time to soak up the natural setting of the tented camp and enjoy the views from your own small deck.
Later in the afternoon we have high tea at camp and embark on an afternoon game drive. Back out in Chobe National Park, we pause for our last scenic African sunset, sundowners in hand. Then we return to the tented safari camp, game viewing en route. Tonight we have a celebratory dinner on the deck and unwind around the campfire under starry skies.
This morning starts with breakfast and coffee at Camp Savuti, our final meal together. After breakfast we leave for the airstrip in Savuti, looking out for any last-minute wildlife sightings during the 30-minute drive.
Then it is time to board the small, fixed-wing plane for your flight to either Maun or Kasane, bringing our 5-Day Tented Botswana Safari to a close.
Mankwe Tented Retreat is a semi-luxury tented camp set in a private game reserve bordering on Moremi Game Reserve. This charming Botswana safari camp is in a private reserve that covers 365 000 hectares of wilderness. It shares unfenced borders with Moremi Game Reserve enabling wildlife to roam freely between the two wildlife areas.
A variety of birds and animals are often sighted at the unfenced safari camp of Manke Tented Retreat. And, the game drives offer superb wildlife sightings. This wild region of Botswana is home to an abundance of large mammals, including lions, leopards, and other big predators. Elephants, buffalos, hippos, zebras, and various antelope species are commonly seen here, along with cheetahs, spotted and brown hyenas, and endangered wild dogs. The birdlife of the Moremi region is also prolific, including an array of raptors and waterbirds.
The tented safari camp is nestled in natural woodlands with mopane trees and native vegetation. This tranquil wild setting provides the ideal base for exploring this scenic Botswana wilderness by land and water. Game drives in the private concession area are included in your stay at the tented camp. You also have the option (at extra cost) of embarking on a full-day safari to the Khwai River area in Moremi Game Reserve with the option of adding mokoro rides and boat trips to your itinerary (at extra cost). This allows guests to tailor-make their safari experience at Mankwe.
Mankwe Tented Retreat is built out of light wood, thatch, and canvas. Elegant design and natural materials ensure the safari camp blends in with its natural surroundings to create a harmonious retreat in nature. This semi-luxury safari camp features two swimming pools, a poolside bar, and a small spa room where pampering treatments can be booked. An expansive wooden deck flows from the main pool to the dining area and cozy boma with an outdoor fireplace. Deck chairs and sheltered nooks provide comfortable spots for guests to relax in peace. The pool bar is set at the second swimming pool where sun loungers and shady umbrellas invite guests to unwind. Tucked away, off the main walkway, is a private lounge and reading area for curling up with a book.
At Mankwe Tented Retreat accommodation consists of 10 en-suite tented suites. These spacious tents are raised on wooden platforms with their own private viewing decks. Each tented suite is stylishly furnished and decorated to create a calm and luxurious, modern retreat. Guests can choose from suites with king-sized beds or twin beds. The en-suite bathrooms have a shower, and twin basins, are stocked with amenities, and offer views out over the bush.
Camp Savuti is a semi-luxury tented camp on the banks of the Savuti Channel in Chobe National Park. This tented safari lodge is located in the remote Savuti region, away from the crowds of the Chobe riverfront area.
Camp Savuti looks out over the Savuti Channel, where wildlife and birds gather. This enigmatic river flows and dries up mysteriously. In recent years it began to flow again after a dry spell of about 30 years transforming this arid region of Chobe and attracting an abundance of wildlife.
This eco-friendly tented camp is located in a prime game-viewing area, where large prides of lions once hunted elephants. In addition to its large lion prides, the Savuti Channel hosts numerous African wild dogs, buffalos, other wildlife, and abundant birdlife. The main activities at this authentic Botswana safari camp are early morning and late afternoon game drives in the diverse and wildlife-rich Chobe Park, as well as bird watching and stargazing.
Accommodation at the tented eco-camp is in spacious canvas tents with en suite bathrooms fitted with flush toilets and bush showers. There are five tented suites positioned to provide privacy. These tented suites feature raised decks looking out over the dense bush and channel. The main lounge, bar, and dining areas of Camp Savuti also overlook the Savuti Channel. Facilities at the tented safari camp include a plunge pool and outdoor boma with a fire pit.
