This one-week Botswana Safari starts with a light aircraft flight from Maun over the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve to the Khwai River Area.
Stay in Camp Khwai, overlooking the Khwai River floodplain where an impressive variety of wildlife gathers. Spend your days relaxing and exploring this wildlife-rich area on 4x4 game drives. Take a mokoro trip to discover the narrow maze of waterways and estuaries of the delta by boat and on foot with local guides, or visit a local village.
After 3 nights in the Okavango Delta, take another light aircraft flight to the Chobe River area in northeastern Botswana. Spend 3 nights at a luxury tented camp on the banks of the Chobe River. The concentration of wildlife in nearby Chobe National Park makes for excellent game viewing, and boat trips on Chobe River offer a new perspective. This Botswana Safari to the Okavango Delta, Khwai Concession & Chobe ends in Kasane near Victoria Falls.
Our Botswana Safari to the Khwai Concession & Chobe River kicks off in Maun, where you are greeted at Maun International Airport. From Maun, a light aircraft will transfer you to the Khwai Concession airstrip. Enjoy sweeping views over Moremi Game Reserve and the movement of wildlife through the Okavango Delta during the flight. On landing, a road transfer will take you to Camp Khwai, which lies on the floodplains of the Khwai River forming part of the northern border of Moremi Game Reserve.
Camp Khwai is a well-positioned camp, perfect balance of comfort and rustic, overlooking the Khwai River floodplain. Elephants, antelopes, and predators all concentrate in and around the Khwai River area, making it a great place for wildlife spotting. On arrival, settle in and enjoy a delicious Lunch/High Tea at camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Enjoy a spectacular sunset and spend the evening sitting under the stars and swapping stories about the day’s activities.
The next two days are spent as you decide. Rise early for a dawn game drive, an excellent time for seeing the animals before they seek out the shade to avoid the midday sun. Return to camp for lunch and relax by the pool. Later head out on another game drive, take a mokoro ride, or perhaps visit the nearby village. Helicopter and fixed-wing scenic flights are alternative activities available (own expense).
Camp Khwai is a new luxury-tented camp located in the heart of the Khwai River floodplain. The thatched main area serves as a central gathering place for guests to sit and relax, indulge in delicious meals, spend time under the stars by the campfire, and watch the life on the floodplains play out before them.
The camp boasts 6 deluxe tents & a spacious two-room family tent, all with overhead fans and indoor showers. Tents are all positioned to provide breathtaking views of the surrounding wildlife and natural beauty. The camp is fully solar-powered.
This tented camp is located on a community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve. It has easy access to the game reserve, where you may observe the Big 5 and other incredible wildlife. All proceeds from tourism go directly to help local projects through the Khwai Community Trust. During your stay, you may take a tour of the nearby village to learn about the local culture and customs.
Note: The family unit tent sleeping 5 carries no age restrictions - but a private vehicle must be booked for activities.
On day four of our Botswana Safari, after a final morning activity followed by a hearty breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to Camp Khwai. A light aircraft will transfer you northeast out of the Okavango Delta region. Enjoy the sweeping views over the wild landscape during the flight to your next destination, Jackalberry Chobe Camp lying on the banks of the Chobe River. On arrival, settle in and enjoy a delicious lunch/high tea at camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive.
Wildlife congregates around the Chobe River which drains from the Caprivi Swamp in the northern reaches of Botswana and will eventually join into the Zambezi River to tumble over the Victoria Falls some 75 kilometres away. It forms the northern border of Chobe National Park, first protected as a game reserve in 1961 and proclaimed a national park in 1968. In the dry season, animals converge on this stretch of water from the whole of northern Botswana. Elephants and buffalos, especially, form huge herds for which the park is famous. One of the main attractions of the park is the game viewing boat trips on the Chobe River, looking out for the famously large family groups of elephants that troop down to the river to drink and bathe. Chobe has 4 distinct areas, each area known for concentrations of specific animals. Savuti is famous for lion and hyena, Linyati for hippo and crocodile, and Nogatsaa and Serondella for elephant. Many other types of animals may be sighted, including the rare puku and Chobe bushbuck, and some 460 bird species, including raptors, vultures, and inland waterbirds.
The camp is situated on the banks of the Chobe River, its main area congregated under a majestic Jackalberry Tree. The next two days are spent as you choose. Set off early to explore the area on morning and afternoon game sighting activities - your choice of 4x4 safari game drives or game-viewing river cruises. Return to camp for a hearty meal and escape the heat of the day by the pool or watching the life on the river pass you by as you relax under the Jackalberry tree or on your private deck before your next activity.
Jackalberry Chobe is located on the banks of the majestic Chobe River in Kasane, Botswana. Relax on the main deck under the shade of our majestic Jackalberry tree, soak up the sun at the infinity pool, indulge in gourmet meals or a drink at the bar as you unwind and absorb the majestic sights and sounds of Chobe wildlife as the river flows by.
There are 16 luxury tents (twin or double configuration), with either river or bush-facing vistas, all with air conditioning, indoor showers, and baths. One is wheelchair friendly. An additional single bed can be added to any tent to accommodate children under 11 yrs with their parents.
Experience the spectacular wildlife of Chobe National Park on game drives and boat cruises from camp.
Note: While Children over the age of 6 are welcome, private activities need to be booked.
After a final morning activity followed by a hearty breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to Jackalberry Chobe. You will be transferred by road to the nearby town of Kasane, where our Botswana Safari adventure ends.
