This diverse Madagascar Tour offers more than lemurs and Nosy Be beaches. This varied tour begins with an overnight stay in Madagascar's colorful capital, Antananarivo, before flying to Diego Suarez where you are met by your guide.
Continue to one of Madagascar's most diverse rainforests - Montagne d'Ambre, where you will find sacred caves, underground rivers, and remarkable Madagascar animals and plants including the world's smallest chameleons and lemurs! Your next destination is the Ankarana Reserve, where the landscape resembles a spiky stone forest and the underground riverbeds and caves help to protect the region from human intrusion!
For the last leg of this scenic North Madagascar Tour, travel to the sandy, tropical beaches of Nosy Be island without your guide. Here you can enjoy the perfect beach getaway before you return to the capital city.
This diverse North Madagascar Tour starts in Antananarivo, the beautiful capital of Madagascar. Upon arrival at the Ivato International Airport, you are collected and transferred to your hotel in the city.
Spend the rest of the first day relaxing at the hotel or set off to explore the capital on your own. With its bustling markets, friendly people, and ancient town on a hill with freestone churches and ancient royal places, Antananarivo is a unique capital city.
On the morning of day two, you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Diego Suarez. Your guide for the next few days is there to meet you when you land at the airport in Diego Suarez.
From the airport, your guide drives you straight to Montagne d'Ambre National Park, which covers 18,200 ha of a prominent volcanic massif. Day three of our North Madagascar Tour is spent exploring the diverse national park on nature walks.
Montagne d'Ambre boasts striking scenery with rainforests and waterfalls and is one of the most popular natural attractions in Madagascar. It was created in 1958 to protect the massif and the ecosystems it supports especially the region's unique flora and fauna species. In the Montagne d'Ambre Park, you will have the chance to see seven species of lemurs, the aye-aye, the ring-tailed mongoose, and a variety of reptiles including frogs, geckos, and chameleons, as well as more than 70 species of birds.
On day four your guide takes you to Ankarana - a stunning nature reserve with karst pinnacles, sacred caves, underground rivers, and beautiful scenery.
The rich and diverse animals and plants include many lemurs and interesting bird species. Its limestone pinnacles are called tsingy formations, running through and under the tsingy are hidden forest-filled canyons and numerous subterranean rivers. Today we explore the extensive cave system, which includes several fascinating bat-filled grottoes.
The whole of day five of our North Madagascar Tour is spent in the Ankarana nature reserve, admiring the incredibly rich and varied vegetation and the abundance of animals found in the nature reserve.
This morning we drive to Ankify - a small village situated along the white sand beaches of Madagascar. In Ankify you say goodbye to your guide and board a boat to Nosy Be. Arriving on Nosy Be island you are transferred to your next hotel by car.
Nosy Be, commonly known as "the island of perfumes" and the largest of Madagascar's offshore islands, is a beautiful tropical island covered with palm trees and bougainvillea. Nosy Be is a postcard-pretty place where you could easily spend the entire day simply watching the changing hues of blue in the sea and the sky. In addition to its pretty beaches, the island boasts luxuriant foliage, friendly people, and a relaxed Indian Ocean vibe.
Day seven of the North Madagascar Tour is free for you to enjoy Nosy Be at your leisure.
Simply unwind on the picturesque beaches or enjoy some of the various optional excursions (extra cost) available. You can visit the Lokobe Reserve, a rainforest reserve that protects most of Nosy Be's endemic vegetation. Here, you might see lemurs, birds, and chameleons.
Or you can go on a day-cruise (own account) to the surrounding islands "Nosy Komba"- the island of lemurs, or "Nosy Tanikely"- an underwater reserve offering a rich diversity of marine life, such as beautiful corals and a big variety of fish, with excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities. Fish you might see include surgeonfish, clownfish, barracuda, manta rays, sea urchins, starfish, eels, anemones, and many more sea creatures.
After a blissful day spent doing what you choose on Nosy Be, return to your hotel and enjoy the amenities on offer.
Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Antananarivo where you can catch your onward flight, bringing this unforgettable North Madagascar Tour to an end.
