Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1 to 3: Chobe National Park, Chobe Elephant Camp - Botswana

This 9-day Botswana Lodge Safari begins with collection from the airport near Chobe National Park. From there it is a short transfer to our first safari camp, Chobe Elephant Camp. Making our way to Chobe Elephant Camp, we travel westward along the edge of Chobe National Park.

The eco-friendly camp is set on a rocky ridge, overlooking the Chobe floodplains and bushveld, providing a stunning view of this prime Botswana destination with plenty of opportunities to explore the wildlife and Chobe National Park. Chobe Elephant Camp is designed to resemble a traditional African homestead and is built from the red Kalahari sands that characterize northern Botswana. It features a swimming pool with a viewing deck beside a waterhole, perfect for relaxing and watching the wildlife come to drink. The large open-plan communal area offers a lounge with cosy couches and a reading corner as well as a dining area and bar. There are ten double/twin chalets and one family unit, allowing for a maximum of 24 guests. The chalets have private verandahs to enjoy the surrounding view and en suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers.

Your stay at Chobe Elephant Camp is centred around game viewing, with downtime to chill at the lodge between activities. Expert local guides take you on game drives, sharing their knowledge of the region and its wildlife with you. You also enjoy game-viewing boat cruises on the Chobe River which is an outstanding way to get up close to birds and animals along the river course. Chobe National Park is famous for its huge elephant herds and also hosts an abundance of other mammals, such as buffalos, antelopes, lions, giraffes, zebras, and hippos. Spend some time in a rural village getting a glimpse into the lives and culture of the local Sibuya tribe.

Days begin with an early breakfast, served at about 6h00 or 6h30, depending on the season. Safari activities take place in the early mornings and late afternoons, with lunch at about midday (depending on transfers and activities). Dinner is served back at the camp at about 19h30 or 20h00, followed by free time to relax.

You have the option of embarking on a boat cruise as part of a full-day adventure arranged by Chobe Elephant Camp. The day begins with an early breakfast at camp followed by a morning game drive in Chobe National Park, We exit Chobe at around midday or in the early afternoon, depending on wildlife sightings, enjoying a picnic lunch in the national park or on the boat. From Chobe National Park we head to Kasane where we board the boat for our relaxing Chobe River cruise. Cruising along the river at this time of day, we are sure to spot elephants drinking and bathing, along with numerous other animals and birds. After the boat cruise, you can return to camp for sundowners or head off on a short sunset game drive in Chobe Park. (Depending on water levels, the boat cruise may take place from the jetty within the park and can in this instance be done as a morning or afternoon activity: please note that these are only guidelines and schedules are flexible depending on a variety of things, and will be discussed at camp on your arrival or during your stay.)

Day 4 to 6: Khwai & Moremi, Sango Safari Camp - Botswana

On day four of our Botswana Lodge Safari, we travel from Chobe to the Okavango Delta region. In the morning we take a scenic flight from Kasane to the Khwai River Area, on the fringes of the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve. We fly over the untamed bush and rural Botswana, landing at the Khwai airstrip in our small fixed-wing plane.

Our next safari lodge, the Sango Safari Camp, is located in the Khwai River Area, about 3 and a half hours from Maun. The tented camp offers a back-to-nature safari experience in understated luxury with a traditional bush-style ambience reminiscent of colonial times - a classical African safari camp. The safari camp is built in a shaded spot along the Khwai River, bordering on the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve section of the Okavango Delta, one of the top wilderness destinations in Southern Africa. The Khwai River forms the unfenced border between Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai Concession Area, which places the safari lodge in an ideal spot for exploring both wildlife areas. We explore both the Khwai River Area and Moremi Game Reserve, between which the wildlife moves freely, on guided game-viewing activities.

Options include venturing into the bush on game drives in open safari vehicles, taking bush walks, and exploring the waterways by "mokoro" (dug-out canoe). The safari camp also offers night-time game drives - a thrilling way to encounter Africa's nocturnal wildlife. Exploring the pristine Moremi Reserve area of the famous Okavango Delta by "mokoro" is a must - gliding quietly along the channels as you look out for birds and animals! This intimate camp ensures that visitors enjoy an unforgettable wildlife adventure in the game-rich Moremi and Khwai River regions of Botswana.

Our days at Sango usually begin at sunrise with breakfast at camp, before heading out on our morning activity. At about midday lunch is served and then there is free time to rest and unwind at camp, before high tea in the afternoon. After tea we set off on an afternoon activity, leaving at about 15:30 or 16:00 (depending on the season). Dinner is served at about 19:30 or 20:00, followed by an evening of relaxation or you can embark on an exhilarating night drive.

The structure is based on the design of a traditional homestead in Botswana, creating a new take on rural living. Cool interiors are furnished and decorated in old-fashioned farmhouse style making it a welcoming and charming space. High ceilings with rustic wooden beams and the deep verandah that opens out onto the bush, give the spacious communal area an airy and light feel. The large open-plan communal area offers a lounge with cosy couches and a reading corner as well as a dining area and bar. About Sango Safari Camp in the Okavango Delta

This is a relatively small Botswana safari camp, accommodating only 12 guests at a time, which makes for an intimate and crowd-free stay in the Botswana bush. The main lodge areas and six walk-in canvas tents are set under trees to provide a cool retreat from the sunny African days. The safari camp is located on the fringes of Khwai village, which makes it easy to visit this rural settlement. Sango Camp is named after a local family - one of the original families living in the Khwai Area. Descendants of the Sango family today partly own the safari camp.

The tented rooms at camp are spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms featuring al fresco bush showers. Each tent is set on a raised wooden deck with a small viewing deck where you can sit and survey nature. These Meru-type tents have big windows with mosquito netting to let in the light and fresh air. The tents are decorated in refreshing, earthy tones with splashes of vibrant-coloured African fabrics, creating calm and cheerful interiors. The main tented areas, like the rooms, feature a combination of characterful wooden and canvas camping-style furniture with natural shades, handcrafted pieces, and touches of bright African prints completing the decor. The overall effect is a nostalgic old-world safari blend of simplicity and luxury in the African wilderness. The camp has a small pool for cooling off on hot days and at night the campfire and glowing lanterns create an intimate and warm atmosphere.

Sango Safari Camp's location on the banks of the Khwai River provides a peaceful setting with nice views over the river and Moremi Game Reserve on the other side. The camp's position between Khwai and Moremi opens up easy access to both wildlife areas, and it also places the camp within a diverse mix of habitats. Sango offers water-based and land-based game viewing across the wide range of open savannah, riverside forests, wooded zones, floodplains, and seasonal waterways. This varied environment supports an unusually rich assortment of wild animals and birds, resulting in outstanding wildlife and bird-watching opportunities! Activities at camp include open game drives in the Moremi Game Reserve, one of Botswana's finest wildlife areas, and in the neighbouring Khwai wildlife concession, as well as nature walks and exciting night-time game drives.
