Itinerary for this Tour

Botswana Camping Safari Overview

  • 3 nights Mababe Private Concession
  • 3 nights Moremi Game Reserve – private wilderness camping sites
  • 2 nights Okavango Delta – private island Moremi Game Reserve
  • Game drives, Mokoro trips & boat cruise

Day 1: Maun to Mababe Private Concession – Botswana

Your camping safari in Botswana begins at 14h30 when your guide meets you at Maun airport. From here we head out in our customised safari vehicle to Mababe Private Concession, a reserve in north-eastern Botswana. Mababe covers an area of over 50,000 hectares between Botswana’s popular Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. It is known for its diverse landscapes, including grasslands, mopane woodlands, and permanent wetlands, with the Mababe River providing a vital source of water for wildlife.

The Mababe private concession belongs to the local community, and there is a restriction on the number of visitors to the area, making for a more intimate and exclusive African safari experience. We arrive just in time to witness our first sunset in this magical place.

  • Travel: Maun to Mababe 2.5 - 3 hours, 120km
  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2 & 3: Mababe Private Concession – Botswana

Days two and three of your Mababe, Moremi & Okavango Delta Safari are spent on early morning and afternoon game drives in search of the numerous species of animals to be found in the Mababe Concession, such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, lion, leopard, and cheetah. Large herds of elephants and buffaloes make use of the shade provided by the acacia woodlands during the hotter portions of the day, and a variety of animals are lured to the riverbed to drink and feed on the lush grasses that grow after the rainfall. The Mababe Private Concession is also a haven for birdwatchers.

In the heat of the day retreat to camp to relax and reflect on the adventures that unfold. There is also the chance to go on a night drive to experience a very different kind of safari. After dark, the Mababe Private Concession comes to life with a secret world of nocturnal creatures. Aardvarks, brown hyenas, bat-eared foxes, and African wild cats are among the characters that take the main stage as the sun sets and the day creatures retreat for the night.

On day three you have an opportunity to enjoy an optional 30-minute scenic flight in an open helicopter, allowing a magnificent eagle’s eye view of the landscape and animals from above. Note that this flight has to be pre-booked, and payment is in USD cash only.

  • Optional Activity: Helicopter Flight (pre-booking required, payment in USD cash only)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x2

Day 4 to 6: Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

After breakfast on day four of our Botswana Safari, we bid farewell to Mababe and take a scenic drive to a mokoro station at Khwai. Experience the tranquillity of the magnificent Okavango Delta waterways by embarking on a traditional mokoro canoe ride with a skilled poler guide. Glide through the crystal-clear channels of the inland Delta system, taking in the serene beauty of the lush surroundings at the unhurried pace of nature. The fibreglass mokoro offers a comfortable and stable ride, allowing you to relax and immerse yourself in the stillness of the Delta and observe the diverse wildlife that inhabits the area, including aquatic species such as hippos and crocodiles, as well as a variety of birdlife.

We then make our way through to the Moremi Game Reserve, traversing scenic mopane woodlands and grassy plains teeming with wildlife. We pause for a picnic lunch along the way. After a leisurely game drive, you arrive at the comfortable campsite late in the afternoon, settling in for the next three nights. Enjoy daily game drives to discover nature’s best-kept secrets. Moremi is a spectacular preserve where land and water meet. There are amazing opportunities for both bird and game viewing due to the remarkable diversity of rivers, lagoons, pans, floodplains, riverine forests, and woodlands. After a day in the bush, retreat to the campsite for an evening by the campfire under a canopy of stars

  • Travel: Mababe to Moremi 90km, leisurely full-day experience (day 4)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x3

Day 7 & 8: Okavango Delta Private Island – Botswana

The third destination on this epic Botswana Camping Safari lets you tour a portion of the Moremi Game Reserve that not many get to see. Our destination is a tiny oasis tastefully designed on a private island amid the Okavango Delta's deep-water canals, ideally located between the floodplains of the Okavango Delta and the game-rich savannah of Moremi Game Reserve.

Enjoy luxurious accommodations in this stylish tented camp for two nights staying in meru-style en suite tents. Your days are spent on the water, exploring around the island and its neighbouring waterways, spotting the resident wildlife from the water. After the day’s adventures, settle into camp and enjoy the magnificent sunsets over the water.

  • Travel: Moremi to Private Delta Island 20-30km to boat station, 1- 2 hours
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x2

Day 9: Moremi to Maun Airport – Botswana

Day nine of our Mababe, Moremi & Okavango Delta Safari sees us depart early by boat to Maun. The safari vehicle will be waiting when you get to the boat station, and you can enjoy a final game drive on the way out of the Okavango Delta for another opportunity to see the more elusive species not yet spotted. We arrive back at Maun at about noon when our safari in Botswana finishes. Your guide will drop you off at Maun Airport or your post-tour Maun accommodation.

  • Travel: Private Delta Island to Maun 150km, 5 hours
  • Meals: Breakfast

Child Policy

This tour does take children.

While the minimum age for guests on this scheduled safari is 12 years old, occasionally we may make exceptions during low season (November to June), or perhaps for children who have already travelled on an adventure holiday etc.

The safari camps are wild camp sites, in remote areas of Botswana and these camp sites are not fenced.  Animals do come through the campsite at night, and it is important that children are able to listen to and follow the guide safety instructions for the different areas on safari.

The guides are highly professional and very experienced, so guests will be safe in their care as long as they abide by the safety rules.
