Day 1: KwaZulu-Natal to Sani Pass & Hlotse - Lesotho

Your 3-Day Private Sani Pass & Lesotho Tour begins with an early morning flight from Johannesburg to Pietermaritzburg, where your guide collects you from Oribi Airport. Travel to Underberg to ascend the world-famous Sani Pass 4x4 mountain route into Lesotho, stopping regularly for tea, photographs, and panoramic mountain views. Visit a traditional shepherd’s village to experience local bread baking and learn about Basotho mountain life.

Continue to Black Mountain and over the highest point on Sani Pass, then visit a rural village where you meet a traditional healer and witness cultural dances and rituals performed by local women. Travel across the spectacular “Roof of Africa”, passing Afriski Mountain Resort and the Letseng Diamond Mine before stopping for a late lunch near Oxbow Lodge. Time permitting, visit the historic Liphofung Caves to view ancient San rock art before descending the dramatic Moteng Pass into the lush Lesotho lowlands. Arrive in Hlotse in time for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2: Thaba Bosiu & Semonkong - Lesotho

Continue to the historic mountain fortress of Thaba Bosiu, founded by King Moshoeshoe I, where you visit the cultural centre and learn about the history of the Basotho nation and its royal heritage.

Enjoy a packed lunch before travelling through Lesotho’s scenic landscapes to Semonkong, known as the “Place of Smoke”. Check into the iconic Semonkong Lodge, situated near the bustling mountain village famous for its horses and donkeys. Spend the evening soaking up the traditional Basotho culture as shepherds guide animals home through the village, while enjoying dinner at the lodge.

Take in the dramatic mountain scenery before departing Semonkong with a packed lunch for the drive to Maseru, Lesotho's capital, and board your afternoon flight back to Johannesburg.
