Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, we set our sights on the famous Masai Mara National Reserve, arriving at our first tented camp in time for lunch. After lunch, we embark on our first thrilling game drive in the epic Masai Mara of Kenya.
The reserve hosts some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, boasting outstanding game viewing throughout the year. The Masai Mara hosts the Big 5 of Africa and a plethora of other animals, so get ready for exciting wildlife encounters. At certain times of the year, you'll get to see the breathtaking spectacle of the Great Migration on our game drives here. Known as the greatest wildlife show on earth, this is an awe-inspiring annual migration of up to 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles!
Returning to the camp, you can relax on your private veranda or have sundowners and dinner in the central restaurant. Our intimate tented camp is nestled in a pristine forest, high up on the Oloololo Siria Escarpment. Sit back and enjoy the spectacular views of the Mara Triangle region of Masai Mara National Reserve, where the Great Wildebeest Migration can be seen.
Spend two full days on safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve. On days four and five, we embark on morning and afternoon game drives. In between your Masai Mara safari adventures, enjoy meals and leisure time at the tented camp.
Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve is widely considered the ultimate African safari destination, along with Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The beautiful wild landscape provides the perfect setting for the game-viewing adventures of a lifetime. High wildlife concentrations ensure excellent sightings of a variety of large animals on our eventful game drives.
Today, we travel to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania for the next part of our unforgettable African safari. After a delicious breakfast at our Masai Mara safari camp, you are transferred to the local airstrip. From the Masai Mara airstrip, you take a scheduled flight to Migori, where you will be collected and driven to the Kenya-Tanzania border. After completing border formalities, you will be driven to Tarime Airstrip in Tanzania, where you catch your scheduled flight to the Seronera Airstrip in Serengeti National Park.
Arriving in Serengeti National Park, your guide welcomes you to Tanzania and drives you to our next luxury tented camp. The safari camp is located in the game-rich central Seronera Valley area of Serengeti Park. Its location is ideal for accessing hot-air balloon safaris in Serengeti, which can be booked as an optional activity (at extra cost).
Settle in at the tented camp, have lunch, and take a rest before we embark on our first 4x4 game drive in the famous Serengeti National Park. Arguably the best national park in Africa, Serengeti Park covers about 14,763 km² (5,700 mi²) of rolling savannah plains, making it far larger than the Masai Mara National Reserve. It is located at the heart of the larger Serengeti ecosystem and hosts the bulk of the Great Migration.
After our first wildlife adventure in Serengeti, we return to our luxury, tented camp for dinner and a laid-back evening in the African bush.
Day 7 of our East Africa Safari is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti National Park. Tanzania's oldest park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we explore the Serengeti on 4x4 game drives over the next two days.
The park offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and promises an incredible African safari experience year-round. Together with the Masai Mara, Serengeti National Park hosts the annual Great Migration, an awe-inspiring wildlife phenomenon. The Great Migration sees up to 2 million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles migrate across vast distances in search of fresh grazing. They move between the Masai Mara and Serengeti on an ongoing basis, forming a massive circular route. When the migration passes through this region of Serengeti Park, you'll get to see the huge herds of herbivores on the move.
Our tented camp is located in an area boasting excellent wildlife sightings, including the Big 5 of Africa. After an adventure-packed day of exploring Serengeti National Park, we will return to our safari camp for a sumptuous dinner. We spend the night in comfort and prepare for another full day of safari adventures in the Serengeti the next day.
Savour another full day on safari in Serengeti National Park on day 8 of our Kenya and Tanzania Safari. Spend the entire day exploring the vast plains and its diverse wildlife, including lions, giraffes, cheetahs, and hyenas, among others. Get the chance to watch a beautiful sunrise and sunset over the endless plains.
Embark on 4x4 game drives in the early morning and late afternoon, or you can take an optional hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti (extra cost).
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart from the Serengeti camp and drive into the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We visit a traditional Maasai Homestead in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to experience a bit of local Tanzanian culture.
Following our Tanzanian cultural experience, we visit the world-famous Olduvai Gorge paleoanthropological site, known as the Cradle of Mankind. From here, we continue to our luxury-tented camp within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving in time for lunch. We spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure, enjoying the breathtaking views before sundowners and dinner later in the evening.
Day 10 of our Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar Safari starts with an early breakfast at the camp, or we can head straight for the crater, taking packed breakfasts to enjoy along the way. We embark on a full-day 4x4 game drive in Ngorongoro Crater, frequently referred to as the world's eighth wonder. The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area is one of Africa's most well-known wildlife parks, hosting the world's largest inactive volcanic crater. The crater is also home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
On our game drive, we are likely to encounter four of the Big 5 - lions, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos - and occasionally even leopards. Ngorongoro Crater is considered the best place to see rhinos in Tanzania. Other animals commonly seen in this compact reserve are hippos, wildebeest, cheetahs, hyenas, and zebras.
After our exhilarating 4x4 game drive, we enjoy a packed lunch on the crater floor before returning to our luxury-tented camp in the afternoon.

Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek, the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season, but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
Please talk to a travel expert from African Budget Safaris about seeing the Wildebeest Great Migration on your safari to find out more. Also, check out our detailed article about the Great Migration in the Serengeti and Masai Mara.
