Itinerary for this Tour

Botswana Safari Overview

  • 3 nights Mababe Private Concession
  • 3 nights Moremi Game Reserve – private wilderness camping sites
  • 2 nights Okavango Delta – Gomoti River tented camp
  • Game drives, Mokoro trip & boat cruise

Day 1: Maun to Mababe Private Concession – Botswana

Your Northern Botswana Safari begins at 14h30 when your guide meets you at Maun airport. From here we head out in our customised safari vehicle to Mababe Private Concession, a reserve in north-eastern Botswana. Mababe covers an area of over 50,000 hectares between Botswana’s popular Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. It is known for its diverse landscapes, including grasslands, mopane woodlands, and permanent wetlands, with the Mababe River providing a vital source of water for wildlife.

The Mababe private concession belongs to the local community, and there is a restriction on the number of visitors to the area, making for a more intimate and exclusive African safari experience. We arrive just in time to witness our first sunset in this magical place.

  • Travel: Maun to Mababe 2.5 - 3 hours, 120km
  • Meals: Dinner

Day 2 & 3: Mababe Private Concession – Botswana

Days two and three of your Botswana Safari are spent on early morning and afternoon game drives in search of the numerous species of animals to be found in the Mababe Concession, such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, lion, leopard, and cheetah. Large herds of elephants and buffaloes make use of the shade provided by the acacia woodlands during the hotter portions of the day, and a variety of animals are lured to the riverbed to drink and feed on the lush grasses that grow after the rainfall. The Mababe Private Concession is also a haven for birdwatchers.

In the heat of the day retreat to camp to relax and reflect on the adventures that unfold. There is also the chance to go on a night drive to experience a very different kind of safari. After dark, the Mababe Private Concession comes to life with a secret world of nocturnal creatures. Aardvarks, brown hyenas, bat-eared foxes, and African wild cats are among the characters that take the main stage as the sun sets and the day creatures retreat for the night.

On day three you have an opportunity to enjoy an optional 30-minute scenic flight in an open helicopter, allowing a magnificent eagle’s eye view of the landscape and animals from above. Note that this flight has to be pre-booked, and payment is in USD cash only.

  • Optional Activity: Helicopter Flight (pre-booking required, payment in USD cash only)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x2

Day 4 to 6: Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

After breakfast on day four, we bid farewell to Mababe. Next, our safari in Botswana takes us through the prestigious Moremi Game Reserve, with a picnic lunch stop en route.

We take a leisurely game drive to our private campsite inside Moremi, where we'll spend the next three nights. This afternoon, settle in at the wilderness campsite and enjoy the wild setting of our private camp. Moremi Game Reserve is the only official protected area in the Okavango Delta of Botswana, known as one of Africa's most beautiful wildlife parks. Located on the eastern side of the Delta, Moremi offers a unique combination of land and water habitats. Its diverse habitats support rich and varied wildlife and birds.

On days 5 and 6 of our Botswana Safari, we'll explore Moremi Game Reserve on guided 4x4 game drives and a boat cruise. Soak up the stunning scenery of Moremi's wetlands, and dry peninsula as we watch the prolific birds and wildlife. Here you will encounter serene waterways, lagoons, pans, floodplains, riverine forests and woodlands.

Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, buffalos, hippos, giraffes, Burchell's zebras, blue wildebeests and various antelope species. And, with good luck, we may see lions, leopards, hyenas, endangered African wild dogs, and perhaps even rhinos and cheetahs.

On the second day of our Moremi safari adventure, we embark on a 3-hour boat cruise along the deep channels of the delta (subject to water levels and environmental conditions). After our days of exploring the bush, we retreat to the campsite for evenings beside the campfire under a canopy of stars.

  • Travel: Mababe to Moremi 90km, leisurely full-day experience (day 4)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x3

Day 7 & 8: Okavango Delta – Botswana

On day 7 we will drive to the third region our northern Botswana Safari explores, the scenic Gomoti River area. We head to the fringes of the Okavango Delta and our next tented camp on the shores of a tranquil lagoon.

Over the next two days, we will explore this wildlife-rich area of the Okavango Delta by Mokoro and on foot. Meet up with your local guides who will pole you along the waterways and lagoons in their traditional-style dugout canoes, known as Mekoros. This is the ideal way to explore the peaceful channels of the Delta. Sit back and scan the bush for wildlife and birds as your guide ferries you slowly and quietly through the unspoiled habitats of the Gomoti area. Your guides will also lead you on nature walks on the islands and floodplains of this beautiful region of Botswana.

Our final camp offers luxury tented accommodation in Meru-style tents beside a lagoon. After rewarding days of exploring we return to our stylish tented camp to enjoy the impressive sunsets over the water.

  • Travel: Moremi to Okavango Delta 90km, 5h (transfer and game drive)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner x2

Day 9: Okavango Delta to Maun – Botswana

On day nine of our Mababe, Moremi & Okavango Delta Safari in Botswana we depart from the Okavango Delta, saying goodbye to the unspoiled wilderness.

From the fringes of the Delta, we take a game drive to Maun, a last chance to spot elusive wildlife and birds. We arrive in Maun at about midday, when your guide will drop you off at the airport or your post-safari lodge bringing our magical Botswana safari to a close.

  • Travel: Okavango Delta to Maun 75km, 2 to 2.5h
  • Meals: Breakfast

Child Policy

This tour does take children.

While the minimum age for guests on this scheduled safari is 12 years old, occasionally we may make exceptions during low season (November to June), or perhaps for children who have already travelled on an adventure holiday etc.

The safari camps are wild camp sites, in remote areas of Botswana and these camp sites are not fenced.  Animals do come through the campsite at night, and it is important that children are able to listen to and follow the guide safety instructions for the different areas on safari.

The guides are highly professional and very experienced, so guests will be safe in their care as long as they abide by the safety rules.
