Welcome to Tanzania! Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your friendly driver who transfers you to Arusha. In Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru, we check into our historic hotel.
Settle in at the grand hotel, established in 1894, and soak up the old-world ambiance. Kick-start day two of your Tanzania Safari with a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel. After checking out, get set for an exhilarating day of adventure as you drive (about 2 hours) to Tarangire National Park.
Arriving at Tarangire National Park we embark on an exciting game drive in this beautiful African game park. While exploring we pause to enjoy a packed lunch in the wilderness. With its vast landscapes and diverse vegetation, Tarangire National Park is famous for its large herds of elephants, baobab trees, and iconic tree-climbing lions. The terrain of the park, covered with anthills and remarkable baobabs, is divided by the Tarangire River, which attracts numerous migratory animals during the dry season.
This afternoon, we proceed to our first safari lodge, located near Lake Manyara. This luxurious lodge is perched on the rim of the Great Rift Valley offering stunning views of the lake and gorge below. Settle into your spacious chalet with its own private deck and en-suite bathroom. Soak up the views from the expansive windows and glass doors that invite the beauty of the African bush in.
Relax in the luxurious bar lounge and admire the breathtaking views of the lake and valley from the deck surrounding the main lodge. Watch pelicans soaring as you sip on sundowners before tucking into a delicious dinner.
Start day three of your Tanzania Safari with a delicious breakfast overlooking Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley. Then we take a short drive to the scenic Lake Manyara National Park. Spanning an area of 330 km² (127 mi²), this stunning park is located in the northern part of Tanzania, just 126 kilometers west of Arusha Town. Explore the unique habitats and diverse wildlife that call this incredible place home - you may even be lucky enough to spot the unusual tree-climbing lions or pink flamingos. After your morning game drive, enjoy a tasty lunch back at the lodge.
In the afternoon we take a guided walking tour through Mto Wa Mbu township to experience the local culture of Tanzania. After our first cultural excursion, we return to our luxurious lodge perched on the escarpment for dinner and a laid-back evening.
This morning, we check out of the lodge and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, we visit the world-famous Olduvai Gorge and the museum. We also have the opportunity to explore the Cradle of Mankind, one of the world's most important paleolithic sites, and gain insight into human evolution. Before continuing to Serengeti National Park, we have a packed breakfast at Olduvai Gorge.
Our Serengeti safari adventure begins as soon as we enter Africa's most famous national park. First, we go game viewing in the central Seronera area. Seronera is known as the "Big Cat Capital of the World" because of its exceptional predator sightings. Next, we check in to our luxury-tented camp and enjoy a delicious lunch before departing on a late afternoon game drive.
The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania's largest wildlife park, covering 14,763 km² (5,700 mi²) of rolling savannah plains. The Serengeti is Tanzania's oldest and most famous national park and arguably the most famous safari destination in Africa.
Day five of our Tanzania Safari is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti National Park. The park offers great wildlife viewing opportunities and promises an unforgettable safari experience. The Serengeti is home to tens of thousands of hoofed animals, that roam in search of fresh grasslands, which are necessary for their survival. Be ready to witness the awe-inspiring migration (in season) and marvel at the sight of these animals in their natural habitat.
Our tented camp is located in an area boasting exceptional wildlife sightings and easy access to Serengeti's famed hot air balloon trips (available as an optional extra). After a day of exploring Serengeti Park, we return to our Serengeti camp for a sumptuous dinner after an action-packed day of adventure. We spend the night in comfort and prepare for a new adventure the next day.
Savor another full day on safari in Serengeti National Park. Spend the entire day exploring the vast plains and its diverse wildlife including lions, giraffes, cheetahs, and hyenas among others. Get the chance to watch the sunrise and sunset over the plains and take home memories that will last a lifetime.
Embark on 4x4 game drives in the early morning and late afternoon or take an optional (extra cost) hot air balloon ride over Serengeti.
After breakfast, we depart from the camp by 08h00, on day seven of our Tanzania Safari. On our way out of the Serengeti Park, we enjoy a final 4x4 game drive. Then we take a leisurely drive into the highlands of the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.
When we arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater, we check in to our scenically-located lodge and have lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its high concentration of wildlife. In the afternoon, we visit a traditional Maasai Homestead located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Alternatively, we visit the Maasai Homestead before checking in at the lodge, enjoying packed lunches along the way.
The rest of the day is spent at our safari lodge perched on the southern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, overlooking the yellow fever trees of the Lerai Forest.
Day eight starts with an early breakfast at the lodge overlooking the crater. Then we depart for a half-day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro Crater is frequently referred to as the world's eighth wonder. The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area is one of Africa's most well-known wildlife parks, hosting the world's largest inactive volcanic crater.
After an exhilarating 4x4 game drive, we travel to our next lodge, set on a farm near Karatu. We check in at our farm stay and tuck into lunch.
This afternoon our Tanzania Safari takes us on a guided tour of a local coffee plantation in the Great Rift Escarpment area. At the end of the day, return to the lodge and soak up the beautiful views of the countryside before dinner.
After breakfast, we drive to Lake Eyasi to visit the Hadzabe and Datoga indigenous ethnic groups. Enjoy an immersive African cultural experience as you meet these local Tanzanian tribes.
The Hadzabe and Datoga live around Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley area of Tanzania and the Serengeti Plateau of Kenya. There are about only 300 Hadza people who still live in the traditional way, foraging for survival. As descendants of Tanzania's hunter-gatherers, they have survived here for thousands of years, with few modifications to their way of life up until a hundred years ago. Our fascinating Tanzanian cultural encounter is followed by a lunch stop with packed lunches. Then we visit a local school (when open) to gain insight into rural Tanzanian life today.
Return to our lodge on a farm for dinner and a relaxing evening in the Ngorongoro Highlands.
Begin your final morning on safari in Tanzania with a leisurely breakfast at the lodge. Stop to admire the breathtaking views from the lodge before checking out and returning to Arusha.
Along the way, we pause for lunch at a scenic lodge on a coffee plantation near Arusha. Then you're transferred back to the town of Arusha or the Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight, bringing our Tanzania Safari adventure to a close.
This Tanzanian Safari starts at Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, a friendly driver will pick you up and transport you to Arusha where our 10-day safari begins. On day 10 travelers will be transferred back to Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha.

Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek, the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
Please talk to a travel expert from African Budget Safaris about seeing the Wildebeest Great Migration on your safari to find out more. Also, check out our detailed article about the Great Migration in Serengeti and Masai Mara.
