A 15-day Kenya & Tanzania Safari combining Africa's best safari destinations - Serengeti, Masai Mara, and more.
Start in Kenya’s vibrant capital city, Nairobi where we enjoy the city’s sites, and local cuisine and get up close to giraffes at the Nairobi Giraffe Centre. We then head to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a safe haven for East Africa's largest black rhino population and the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees. From there, we travel to Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru National Park to soak in the beauty, and spot birds and wildlife. Then we travel to the Masai Mara National Reserve, hosting the Great Migration, for epic game viewing in one of Africa's most legendary parks. Next, we fly to the equally famous Serengeti National Park to continue our game-viewing adventure in Tanzania’s oldest park, which also hosts the spectacular Wildebeest Migration. Then we visit Ngorongoro Crater to spot the Big 5 of Africa and explore the lovely evergreen Lake Manyara National Park before our African safari tour ends in Arusha.
This luxury East African Safari offers spectacular scenery and diverse game-viewing in Kenya and Tanzania's most famous and scenic parks, at a budget-friendly price.
Your unforgettable Kenya & Tanzania Safari begins upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Your driver is there to welcome you to Kenya and take you to your luxury hotel in the capital city, Nairobi. Once you’ve settled in at your accommodation, you can choose to see the sights of Nairobi and sample the local cuisine at one of the city’s many restaurants or stay in and have dinner at the hotel (own account).
Indulge in a delicious breakfast at the hotel before setting off on a sightseeing tour of bustling Nairobi. Kenya's capital offers many safari highlights, including a chance to feed giraffes at the Nairobi Giraffe Centre and see rescued baby elephants up close at the renowned David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
Take a break with an escape to the beautiful Tamarind Brasserie garden restaurant for lunch. Enjoy the unique experience of the Tamarind’s menu which includes seafood, barbecue, and African meals. After exploring the attractions, it’s back to the hotel to freshen up before our welcome dinner together.
Day three of your Kenya & Tanzania Safari starts with an early breakfast before driving north to Nanyuki and on to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Here we check into a luxurious tented camp overlooking scenic landscapes with Mount Kenya in the distance.
This comfortable camp is located inside Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which hosts the Big 5 of Africa. Enjoy a drink in the bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, while watching for wildlife at the busy waterhole. Then head to the central restaurant and tuck into your choice of regional or international cuisine. After dinner, relax in the lounge or bar area which features a cosy log fire for chilly evenings.
Spend day four on safari in Kenya exploring Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees. It is also home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos.
We embark on a morning and afternoon game drive in our 4x4 safari vehicle, returning to the camp for lunch and dinner. During the day, we also visit the local wildlife rehabilitation centres. At the rhino and chimpanzee sanctuaries, we see animals rescued from the black market and learn about their conservation. From a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya to a trailblazer of conservation innovation, the story of Ol Pejeta is as enchanting as it is inspirational.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya and still manages a successful livestock program. It also seeks to support the people living around its borders to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare, and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.
The fifth day of your Kenya & Tanzania Safari adventure starts with breakfast before we drive to Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch at our charming lakeside lodge.
After checking in we have lunch and enjoy the wild setting of the lodge with its lush meadows along the lakeshore. The lodge is set on a 120-acre lakeside property with rich birdlife, monkeys, and small animals. Visit the jetty to spot hippos and soak up 360-degree views of Lake Naivasha, Crescent Island, Mount Longonot, the Mau Escarpment, and the distant Aberdares Mountains. Lake Naivasha is a serene freshwater lake that forms part of a series of scenic lakes in the Great Rift Valley. Mount Longonot (2,776 m) towers over the freshwater lake, known for its submerged volcanic island, called Crescent Island. This beautiful lake is home to exceptional numbers of water birds.
This afternoon you can relax at the comfortable lodge, or embark on a boat ride to Crescent Island. The unspoiled shores of Lake Naivasha are also well worth exploring on foot.
Wake up to a delicious breakfast at Lake Naivasha before heading to Lake Nakuru National Park. At Lake Nakuru, we embark on a game drive in search of the varied wildlife and birds found here.
This Kenyan park is one of the best places to see white rhinos and the elusive leopard. Other animals we may see include buffalos, hippos, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, Rothschild's giraffes, zebras, and with luck the famed tree-climbing lions of Lake Nakuru Park. Although the number of flamingos has dwindled over the years, the lake still offers sightings of other bird species like the pelicans.
After working up an appetite on our morning game drive, we enjoy lunch at a lodge overlooking Lake Nakuru and the surrounding wilderness, or we pause in a scenic spot to have packed lunches out in the bush. Then we return to Lake Naivasha and take a guided bush walk on Crescent Island. On arrival, a boat will take you to Crescent Island for your guided nature walk. Keep an eye out for animals such as zebras, giraffes, elands, wildebeests, and other antelopes. Crescent Island is also a birding haven with sightings including fish eagles, pelicans, herons, cormorants, ospreys, black crakes, cranes, and lily-trotters.
After a hearty breakfast at our Lake Naivasha lodge, we travel to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve of Kenya. Arriving at Masai Mara we make our way to our luxury tented camp inside the national reserve.
Settle in at the safari camp and take in the sweeping views over the open plains of Africa's most famous safari destination. After lunch at our camp, we embark on our first exhilarating 4x4 game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve. Kenya's top game reserve, Masai Mara is world-renowned for the breathtaking spectacle of the Great Migration, the world's largest migration of the wildebeest. When the migration passes through this area you can look forward to watching massive herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles roaming the plains. Its rolling grasslands, winding rivers, and wild escarpments provide the quintessential African safari setting with abundant wildlife throughout the year. Returning to the camp, you can relax on your private veranda; or have sundowners and enjoy dinner in the central restaurant looking out over the untamed African bush.
Spend the next two days on an unforgettable safari in Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve.
After early breakfast at our luxurious camp, we embark on a morning game drive. Later we return to the camp for lunch and a well-deserved rest. Then we head out on an afternoon game drive. In between your Masai Mara safari adventures, you can enjoy optional spa treatments and take a siesta in your spacious tented suite.
For game-viewing, there is nowhere in Africa richer in wildlife or more eventful in encounters than the Masai Mara. A pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, it promises its visitors a profusion of wildlife, prolific birdlife, and the opportunity to see the Big 5 of Africa in the wild. The game viewing is superb throughout the year, with exceptional big cat sightings (especially lions and cheetahs). And between July and October, you have the chance to witness the Great Migration in action.
Today your African safari adventure gets even better as we head to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Get ready to experience the game reserve that competes with Masai Mara for the title of Africa's best safari destination.
After a delicious breakfast at the Masai Mara Camp, you are transferred to the local airstrip for your scheduled flights from Masai Mara to Serengeti via Migori and Tarime. First, you fly from Masai Mara to Migori where you will be collected and driven to the Kenya-Tanzania border. Border formalities complete you will be driven to Tarime Airstrip in Tanzania where you catch your scheduled flight to the Serengeti Seronera Airstrip in Serengeti National Park.

After checking in at the tented camp we have lunch and relax before embarking on our first game drive in the famous Serengeti National Park. This is arguably the best national park in Africa, covering a far larger area than Masai Mara. Tanzania's largest wildlife park the Serengeti Park incorporates about 14,763 km² (5,700 mi²) of rolling savannah plains. Located at the heart of the larger Serengeti ecosystem, it is the country's oldest park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that sets the scene for unforgettable game drives and guided nature walks over the next couple of days.
Day 11 of our Kenya & Tanzania Safari is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti National Park which offers great wildlife viewing opportunities and promises an unforgettable safari experience. The Serengeti is home to tens of thousands of hoofed animals, that roam in search of fresh grasslands, which are necessary for their survival. Be ready to witness the awe-inspiring migration (in season) and marvel at the sight of these animals in their natural habitat.
Our tented camp is located in an area boasting exceptional wildlife sightings and easy access to Serengeti's famed hot air balloon trips (available as an optional extra). In the afternoon, we visit a traditional Maasai Homestead located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Alternatively, we visit the Maasai Homestead before checking in at the lodge, enjoying packed lunches along the way.
The rest of the day is spent at our safari lodge perched on the southern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, overlooking the yellow fever trees of the Lerai Forest.
The day starts with an early breakfast at the lodge overlooking the crater. Then we depart for a half-day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater which is frequently referred to as the world's eighth wonder. Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
Please talk to a travel expert from African Budget Safaris about seeing the Wildebeest Great Migration on your safari to find out more. Also, check out our detailed article about the Great Migration in Serengeti and Masai Mara.
