Getting There: How to See Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula

For flexibility, and to stop and go as you will, hiring a car and spending a day driving to Cape Point via Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, and Simon’s Town, and then returning via Noordhoek and Chapman’s Peak is highly recommended. 

Alternatively, there is a Cape Point sightseeing tour that has multiple pick-up points and visits Simon’s Town, Cape Point, and the Cape of Good Hope, and is well worthwhile.

• Take water to drink and make sure you have a good sun hat and sunscreen. Even when there are cool winds, the sun is fierce.
• There are entry fees for Boulders Beach (about US$ 10) and Cape Point (around US$ 20).
• The coastal road can get busy, during peak times. Start early, to avoid the crowds.
• A toll tariff is charged to use the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive with day pass options. 
• Whale-watching season along the False Bay coast is from June to November, peaking around September, with occasional whale sightings in May, December and January.
