What are Great White Shark Diving all about? by

If it's big sharks you want, big sharks we have.

We offer a one, two and three day Great White Shark Diving Package, where the longer you stay the more you dive. Come and Experience the exhilaration of diving with White Pointers of Dyer Island, Gansbaai, South Africa. We also offer a three-day Great White Shark Diving & Whale Watching Tour.

Where do you dive?

Dyer Island is located close to Cape Aghulus the most Southern Tip of the African Continent. Your Great White Diving Experience will occur just off seal infested island which is approximately 12km's from the small coastal town of Gansbaai (about 220km's from Cape Town). Shark diving off Dyer Island is fantastic with almost guaranteed daily sightings of the Great White Shark.

However it's not all about the Great White Shark, there are also other species including the Cape Fur Seals, Cape Gannets, Cape Cormorants, Jackass penguins, whales and dolphins that inhabit the same area. Two or more of the Marine Big Five (sharks, dolphins, whales, seals and penguins) are usually spotted on the trips, along with various seabirds.

What does your day out at sea involve?

Once we anchor you will get the opportunity to climb into a 8 man steel cage which is secured to the side of the boat. You will be no more than 1m below the surface level of the ocean, enjoying the experience using your snorkel and goggles.

This is perfect for viewing as the Great White Shark is a surface feeder. There is also great viewing from the shark viewing deck on the boat. The crew will entice the sharks in close with you been able to see the full scale of the shark up close and personal.

What's the boat like?

The boat is safe and comfortable and is a catamaran that measures 46 feet (14m) in length. The maximum group size is 30 persons but we limit the size to 25 at the most. This will give you plenty of cage diving opportunity as well.

Other features of the boat include a secure steel cage, spacious cabin, large upper shark-viewing deck, sunbathing area, fresh drinking water,   male and female toilets, wet deck and separate dry-deck for maximum comfort. The boat is licensed SA safety standards and is equipped with radios, navigation equipment, radar equipment, echo sounder, depth finder, current safety equipment, medical first aid kit (including oxygen and fluid replacement), life vests for all passengers and a 50-man life raft.

All equipment is inspected on a yearly basis to ensure that everything is in working order. There is a marine biologist onboard for every trip. Each Crew member is qualified in his/her specific field and together have many years of direct experience in working with great white sharks. Crew qualifications consist of the following: Registered specialised tour guides, A1 (1) commercially licensed skippers, level 3 Medics; Satour; qualified shark handlers and dive Masters.

All the crew on board have done a life-raft course and SAMSA compliant Fire Fighters course. It is important to note that our skippers are licensed with SAMSA (SA Maritime and Safety Authority) and the ICASA (independent Commission Authority of SA). You will find a step-by-step emergency flow chart inside the cabin of the vessel, at all times.

Capture your Experience

On board for your Shark dive you will find a professional underwater videographer who is highly experienced in this field. Your full day will be captured on a high quality video / DVD (both above and below the water) and a copy will is available for purchase at a small cost. In addition to the DVD you will be able to purchase the following:  T-Shirts, underwater disposable cameras, Peak Caps, Wine, DVD's and more.

When is the best time to view the Great White Shark?
