Rwanda is one of the few places where you can go mountain gorilla trekking, with Volcanoes National Park being amongst the best places to see these majestic primates in the wild. Volcanoes Park is also renowned for its golden monkeys, an endangered species endemic to the lower slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Our Rwanda trips all visit Volcanoes National Park, where you get to track golden monkeys, as well as the habituated gorillas.
Other highlights on our Rwanda Gorilla Tours include visiting Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe Forest is the oldest, and also one of the largest, mountain rainforests in Africa, home to 13 species of primates, including large troops of colobus monkeys and about 500 chimpanzees. This incredibly diverse montane forest also hosts a dazzling array of flora and fauna, from orchids and butterflies to over 300 bird species.
Most Rwanda trips also include a stopover in Kigali, where we take a city tour, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, crafts market and other sights of this modern capital. Kigali is considered one of the cleanest cities in Africa, a well-maintained and pleasant city spread across several hills in the middle of the country. Rwanda's moniker, the 'Land of a Thousand Hills' describes the hilly scenery of this beautiful small country.
Our budget Rwanda tours all include excellent value-for-money lodge accommodation, mostly on a full board basis (all meals included). You travel in 4x4 safari vehicles and the tours are conducted by English speaking guides. The gorilla trekking permits are not included in the price of these tours and need to be paid in advance.
