The lively capital city, Maputo, is a popular starting point for travelling to many top Mozambique beaches. There are several international flights each week, primarily through Maputo International Airport. This airport connects directly to multiple destinations, including Johannesburg, Lisbon, and Doha, with airlines such as LAM Mozambique Airlines, Qatar Airways, and TAP Air Portugal offering regular services. Additionally, other cities like Vilanculos also receive international flights, enhancing access to popular Mozambique beaches and tourist spots.

Recently Mozambique became far more accessible to self-drivers from South Africa with the construction of the Maputo-Katembe Bridge and a new tarred highway from the border at Ponta do Ouro. However, most of the secondary roads in the country require 4x4 vehicles.
